Barnard Castle’s in the pink for Teesdale Cancer Research UK

More than 100 businesses, schools and individuals turned out in support of Teesdale Cancer Research UK’s annual Turn Barney Pink campaign.

Shops, cafés, care homes and even private houses decorated their premises in pink throughout the town not only helping to raise cash for the charity but also awareness of the disease.

Judges were torn in deciding the best decorated and shared the top prize between Kings Court Care Home and Marshall’s café.

Green Lane Primary School came second ahead of Pear Tree gift shop in third.

JH Meynells pet shop was also highly commended.

Pam Ashmore of Teesdale Cancer Research UK said: “The Teesdale committee of Cancer Research UK would like to thank everyone who has taken part in Turn Barney Pink.

“The judges had a very difficult job choosing the winners.

“Thank you to everyone who has held a fundraising event to raise awareness of Cancer Research.

“All the money raised in Teesdale is sent to the Northern Institute of Cancer Research at Newcastle to help scientists find new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

“Together we can beat cancer.”

Mercury editor Alan Formby-Jackson who helped with the judging said: “It was a pleasure to see the hard work that people put in to Turn Barney Pink.

“Congratulations to Pam and her team for the wonderful job they do in organising the event.”
