These are exciting times for The Teesdale Mercury.

We have become part of Barrnon Media, a well-established family-owned business which also publishes the Cumberland & Westmorland Herald and The Keswick Reminder, as well as Cumbria Crack, the county’s premier digital breaking news platform.

We are now planning for the future and looking for a highly motivated reporter to join the Mercury’s experienced editorial team to work on the paper and its associated websites.

Applicants will need to be NCTJ or similarly qualified and have excellent reporting and writing skills.

This is a part-time role, based at our office in Barnard Castle, and candidates at all levels of experience will be considered.

The person we are looking for is a versatile reporter who will get out and about across the Teesdale Mercury patch, centred on Barnard Castle, covering stories of all kinds – from breaking news and features to grassroots sport and local politics.

We offer a competitive salary, dependent on experience.

You should also hold a full driving licence.

How to apply

Please apply by email, sending your CV, plus a covering letter and examples of your work by email to Emily Atherton, Group Editor,  at [email protected] by Friday, March 14, 2025.
