Royal honour for Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team

The dale’s fell rescuers have been awarded the King’s Award for Volunteers.

Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team received the accolade from the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham Mike Butterwick during a garden party on June 24.

A spokesman said: “Team members were joined by founding members, close supporters, and family to celebrate the award, which is the highest award given to local voluntary groups in the UK and recognises the incredible service provided by the team to County Durham.
