Royal honour for Middleton-in-Teesdale carnival trio

VILLAGE TRADITION: Middleton-in-Tees-dale's carnival queen

THREE Middleton-in-Teesdale youngsters are preparing to take centre stage in this year’s village carnival.

Ten-year-old Lola Rayner has been chosen as this year’s carnival queen. Lola’s two attendants – Millie Gibson, 4, and Jessica Docherty, 5 – were picked for the big day during the carnival disco last month.

The Middleton-in-Teesdale Primary School pupils will lead a procession of floats through the village on Saturday, August 4.

Organiser Eileen Dent was thrilled with how much effort everyone put into the carnival disco hosted by the school.

She added: “The disco we had went really well. All the girls were there and it was really exciting – we just could not choose between them so we picked them out of a hat.”

Although the summer fair is a few months away, Ms Dent said plans were already taking shape for this year’s edition.

She said: “We have got some good things still coming this year.”
