BBC TWO programme Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes has dedicated a full episode to showcase the best of Teesdale.
Aired on BBC TWO on Monday at 6.30pm, the 30-minute show takes in Barnard Castle, the Gaunless Valley and upper Teesdale.
The Grantchester star visited the dale during a heatwave in July. In episode six, he pops to Raby Castle to take a scenic walk around the deer park with head keeper Iain Alexander and explores the castle. Later he walks around the streets of Barnard Castle and is shown the sights by town crier Ian Kirkbride.
“It's just absolutely stunning,” Green says. And in a nod to Dominic Cummings' visit, he describes Barney as a “sight for sore eyes”.
He explains how strolling round the town is an ideal way to start a weekend escape, adding that Raby's deer park is like Eden. The TV star urges people not to miss it in favour of other northern attractions such as the Lake District and Hadrian's Wall.
During a visit to Teesdale Cheesemakers in Butterknowle, he tells the camera how he has lived in the North East all his life but had never heard of the Gaunless Valley.
Green meets Dragons Den star Sara Davies, who takes him to see Rob Atkinson who runs Dales Adventure Company in Middleton-in-Teesdale. They go gorge walking in Hudeshope Beck and take a plunge off Horseshoe Falls.
Teesdale is featured on Robson Green's Weekend Escapes, episode 6, which is already available to watch on iPlayer.
