CHILDREN from Gainford Primary will be bringing some tasty cheer to hospice residents thanks to their green-fingered generosity during at the school’s annual harvest service.
The service at St Mary’s Church, was also an opportunity for pupils to show off the fruits of their labours.
Youngsters from Class Swale exhibited their harvest art and sang songs while Class Weir explained the journey of bread, from the sewing of crops, through the harvest and milling, to the baker and finally to people’s homes.
Class Tees pupils recited their poem It’s Harvest Time.
A highlight of the service was when Archie Mennell wheeled in a heap of massive vegetables that he and his grandfather John had grown.
Headteacher Chris Reilly thanked pupils and parents for the items they had donated.
She said: “I am always overwhelmed by the generosity.
“All of this food and produce will go to Butterwick Hospice.”
