Pupils say so long at special leavers service

SO LONG: Headteacher Chris Riley presents Alfie with the trophy for best sportsmanship and Ollie with the trophy for best athlete.

GAINFORD Primary School gave an emotional fond farewell to their Year Six pupils during a leavers’ service last week.

Held at St Mary’s Church, the ceremony saw each of those bidding farewell give an account of their time at the school and of their fondest memories.

They also gave a performance of the Boys in Blue from the Porridge production they had put on during the year.

The children were presented with Bibles and mathematics sets for their journey into secondary school. Headteacher Chris Riley said the parents and teachers had a wonderful time watching the pupils grow, develop, mature and gain confidence.

She added: “Teachers at secondary school always say the children they send from Gainford are fabulous, because you are confident without being over-confident and you try and you’ve got resilience. It is wonderful to see how much you have grown over the years.

“I am so proud of the young people you have become.”
