Pupils on road to future success

BOFFINS from the Nissan Skills Foundation visited a dale school to inspire the next generation of motor engineers.

The engagement day was held at Gainford Primary School and involved all pupils who were given an introduction to the Japanese car maker, which is based at Sunderland, before carrying out a whole host of challenges.

The youngsters were challenged to design a car before building a model using Lego.

Children in years 3 and 4 took part in a chopstick challenge and were introduced to some Japanese words.

The older pupils took part in Lego building challenges and were shown how the Nissan production line operates.

Head teacher Chris Riley said the event had been organised to help promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) at the school and to create more interest in STEM-based careers.

“This engagement day with Nissan has helped to give the pupils a greater insight into STEM careers,” said Mrs Riley.
