Barningham Cricket Club retain Fenwick Cup

Barningham have retained the Fenwick Cup, beating Cockerton by 110 runs in the final at Aldbrough St John CC.

The competition dates back to 1958 and the Fenwick family has a long affiliation with Aldbrough and the village cricket club.

Barningham batted first, scoring 178-8 off 20 overs with Ralph Makepeace (38), Rob Stanwix (37), Mark Walker (33) and Sam Quallis (31 not out) all making significant contributions.

Cockerton were then restricted to 68-8 thanks to disciplined bowling from Joe Blackburn (3-10), Quallis (3-10), Mark Walker (1-9) and Carl Irving (1-25).

The trophy win comes after Barningham won promotion to Division One of the midweek Wensleydale Cricket League.

A 19-run win over Newton-le-Willows guaranteed a second place finish behind Thornton Watlass.
