A COCKFIELD man is hoping to raise money for two emergency rescue charities in memory of his best friend, who died in tragic circumstances last month.
Nathan Forrest is still coming to terms with the shock loss of Daniel Law, who fell to his death while hiking in the Lake District.
He said: “I feel completely lost without Daniel. He was my best friend and sidekick. Some of the best memories of my life were with him and never did I think I would lose a friend. I lost my best friend Daniel in a very tragic hiking incident. It was a huge shock to all of us and we are absolutely lost without him.
“Another of my friends was also involved in the incident.
“They both fell from a high drop while walking on top of a mountain.
“Dylan survived and was saved by the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS) and Patterdale Mountain Rescue.”
The aspiring boxer has vowed to raise as much money as he can for the two charities with two challenges in memory of his friend, who was also from Cockfield.
On September 11 he will take part in the Great North Run for the GNAAS.
Then he intends to complete 30 of the Wainwright walks by the end of the year.
Mr Forrest said: “GNAAS is a charity that receives no government funding. I also plan to complete a goal Daniel set himself – to complete 100 Wainwright walks in 2022. He’d already completed 70. Myself and some others will be completing the remaining 30 while raising money for the mountain rescue team.”
Mr Forrest added: “We had so many more memories to make and it breaks my heart to think he will no longer be in my life. All donations are greatly appreciated whether it is £5 or £50. These two charities are perfectly fitting for Daniel as he was so in touch with walking mountains and it had become such a big part of his life.”
