Middleton club’s roof work begins after £44,000 fundraiser

They’re raising the roof at Middleton-in-Teesdale Sports & Social Club.

After raising £44,000 to replace the old tiles, the scaffolding is up and work is underway.

“We’re extremely grateful to the amazing local tradesmen and businesses who are offering their services to us to help with the roof,” said Ali Collinson.

“I would like to think we’ll get it done this summer, but it depends on everyone’s timeframe.

“People are here as volunteers so we can’t push people when they have paid jobs to do.”

It took two years for the club to raise the funds for the work, which is intended as the start of a bigger refurbishment.

“Our aim is to repoint it, clean the front up and make it more fresh and welcoming,” added Ali.

“Hopefully we can improve the outside then move indoors and futureproof it.”
