A THREE day flower festival entitled War and Peace marking 100th anniversary of the armistice of the First World War was held at St Mary’s Church in Hutton Magna last weekend.
It took a week of dedicated work from 17 volunteers to put together the floral displays which adorned the church. St Mary’s is also celebrating its 140th birthday.
One of the most stunning and poignant displays featured a dried flower arrangement and greeted visitors as they entered.
A thought-provoking display, paying tribute to the 12 fallen soldiers from Hutton Magna, was created by resident Graham Dodd, who visits the Commonwealth War Graves in France each year.
Mr Dodd erected the display, made out of pallet wood and rusted corrugated iron, adorned with poppies and wooden crosses along with photographs of each of the local men.
The display also featured barbed wire from Battle of the Somme, along with an original wooden cross.
