First class carnival week full of fun

PRETTY IN PINK: Scotties Hairdressers paid homage to Barbie and Ken TM pic

A HOST of carnival events came to a climax with the annual procession through Middleton-in-Teesdale on Saturday.

Many had already joined in the walking treasure hunt, the return of the hill race, the shop window competition and the children’s cycles races in the days leading up to carnival day.

As always, there was a colourful variety of floats and costumes on view.

Top spot in the floats went to the Spry and Wallace families with their brilliant homage to Clarkson’s Farm, with the “village idiots” in second place with their Wonka-themed entry and the Abba inspired float from 15 friends was third.

There was a sprinkling of Barbies both in the floats and the walkers along with a plethora of Super Marios.

After the procession made its way to the sports field an afternoon of fun ensued, including a dog show, bouncy castle and other stalls and games.

The carnival came to a conclusion on Sunday with a duck race from the Mart bridge and a football match which pitted the under 30s against the village’s more experienced players.

Results:

Floats: 1, Clarkson’s Farm (Spry & Wallace); 2, Wonka; 3, Abba (Holly Teward & Girls); Highly commended: The Vikings (Emma James & Friends) and Barbie (Scotties & Middleton Sports & Social Club).

Walkers: Under 5, Rapunzel (Molly Armstrong); 5-7 years, Princess Belle (Mia Armstrong); 8-11 years, Olympic Gold Medallist (Eleanor Tallentire); 12-16 years, Mario & Luigi (Megan Henderson & Courtney Watson).

Groups: 1, Super Mario (Collinson families); 2, The Magic Roundabout (Gillian Hutchinson & Gillian Tims); 3, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (Abbie Collinson & Brenda Toulson and families); Highly commended, The Minions (Floraidh, Skye and Bobby).
