Dazzling display as Santa shows up

Santa with with Leo

CROWDS of people – young and old – braved chilly temperatures to witness the annual switching on of the Christmas lights in Middleton-in-Teesdale.

The lights have been extended again this year with more in the village to provide a truly illuminating experience for all who attended.

Carnival queen Leah Fletcher, 11, did the honours of pressing the switch.

While villagers awaited the arrival of their special festive guest, Middleton and Teesdale Silver Band and the Altogether Choir provided music and carols.

Song sheets were handed out and there were rousing choruses of Jingle Bells as Santa Claus came into view on the back of red pick-up truck.

After disembarking his festive transport he headed over to his grotto in the Masonic Hall where children were waiting to meet him.
