Church sets up school uniform bank to help families in the dale

BANK ON US: Influence Church campus pastor Jonny Foster and school uniform bank organiser Sue Gregory with some of the items already collected

A SCHOOL uniform bank has been established in the dale to help families who are struggling to make ends meet

The project has been launched by the Influence Church, based on the success of a similar scheme they started in Richmond, and will complement the food bank they are already running in Barnard Castle.

A drop-off collection point for anyone wishing to donate any old, new or unwanted uniforms, has been established at Moments Cafe, in Market Place, Barnard Castle.

Sue Gregory, from the Influence Church, said: “We trialled this in Richmond last year and it was very successful.

“The uniform bank will be open to everyone with primary and secondary school children because school uniforms are expensive for everyone.”

She added all items are organised and washed by a team of volunteers ahead of the school uniform bank day, which will be held on Thursday, August, 8 at the Influence Church’s Barnard Castle base in Galgate.

It will be open between 10am and 4pm.
