THERE was colourful fun in the sun as children raised cash for a cancer charity.
Pupils and teachers at Green Lane Primary School, in Barnard Castle, took part in a Race for Life event, running a 1,500-metre course to bring in money for the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK.
A musical warm up, which saw teachers and volunteers who are completing Duke of Edinburgh Awards wear brightly coloured tutus, got the afternoon under way.
After a warm-up lap, youngsters from each year group then goggled up to complete another lap, this time with teachers and lunch-time supervisors at stations around the course armed with powered paint, purchased by a donation from the GMB union.
For the first time in three years, youngsters were cheered on by parents, grandparents, town mayor Cllr Rima Chatterjee and members of the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK.
Special guest Barney Bear, from Morrisons, was a hit with children when he dropped in, bringing along a supply of water for the thirsty kids with community champions Lesley Taylor and Gillian Robinson.
