THE town council has been urged to take the lead in bringing together individuals and organisations to deal with Barnard Castle’s traffic problems.
Speaking at last week’s meeting, resident Ros Evans asked what has happened since Barnard Castle Town Council agreed last year to begin talks on problems such as HGVs damaging the Market Cross.
Parish clerk Martin Clark replied that the town council had been invited by Highways England to send two members to its community liaison group to discuss and raise issues or questions about the forthcoming A66 upgrade.
But Ms Evans said the original idea included a wider remit than just the A66.
She said: “It’s about local group and the town council plus the county council and other interested parties to talk about the many and various transport issues that we have, not all of them relevant to Highways England.
“What progress has the town council made on bringing people together to discuss traffic issues? There has been no action.”
Mr Clark said he would look again at the matter.
