Barbers staff are worth their weight in gold

PRAISE: Clique member Robert Bowman presents a gold award for outstanding contribution to the community

STAFF at a Kurdish barbers were taken by surprise when they were presented with a Gold Award by a Barnard Castle charity fundraising group.

Dara Omer, Kaywan Abdulah, Hardi Toureeq and Harem Mohamed, who run the Kurdish barbers in Newgate, Barnard Castle, were presented with the plaque by Robert “Boff” Bowman on behalf of the Clique charity.

The barbers raised more than £600 when they donated takings and tips as a way of saying thank you for the welcome they received since moving to the town.

Mr Bowman said: “We wanted to recognise the contribution they made and thank them as donating all their takings goes over and above. Every bit of the money the Clique raises goes to local causes and charities here in the dale and without the likes of these guys we wouldn’t be able to do that.”
