Best days of their lives? Trip back to school in the 1960s

BACK TO SCHOOL: Steve Iceton sent in this old picture from his school days

STEVE Iceton took a trip down memory lane when he sent us this photo of Barnard Castle Secondary Modern School in 1960.
Mr Iceton, who now lives in East Yorkshire, says the picture shows Miss Raine’s class, Form 3B. He said: “Most of the pupils were from the various villages with some from Barney. I lived at Greta Bridge.”
Before this, he was at Startforth school.
Mr Iceton said: “They moved us all to Barnard Castle Secondary Modern. Before then, you would just stay at one school until you left. We were so far behind when we moved we had to have our own class and stayed on an extra term.”
Mr Iceton, pictured second from right at the front, left school aged 17 and joined the Army.
“I thought it would be nice to show the school picture because there will still be lots of people around who remember those days,” he said.
