Bake-off contest goes down a treat at Ingleton

BAKE OFF: Top bakers Henry

THE idea to host a bake-off competition as part of the annual harvest festival celebrations has gone down a storm at one dale school.

There was a huge turnout at Ingleton school to try out the winning treats, raising £225.76 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

The student council at Ingleton School asked if they could organise a cookery contest instead of the normal vegetable competition and more than 50 cakes, tray bakes, biscuits, muffins and cup cakes were entered by pupils.

The children, with help from their parents and grandparents, baked their entries at home and brought them into school to be judged by teacher Katie Harris, a keen home baker who said she had a hard job deciding on the winners as the standard was so high.

Following the judging children attended a harvest festival service at the village church and then parents and the community were invited back to the school for teas and coffees and a slice or two of the sumptuous treats.

The school hall was also packed with villagers wanting to try the tasty-looking treats.
