ALMOST 80 tractors took to the roads of the upper dale to raise more than £4,200 for a brain cancer charity.

The Middleton Charity Tractor Run, on Sunday, September 10, was held in memory of upper dale farmer Richard Scott who died of a brain tumour in 2021.

It is the second time the event has been held in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.

Organiser Steve Elliott said 77 tractors from as far as Whitby, Gretna Green and Kirby Lonsdale, arrived at Middleton-in-Teesdale Auction Mart to take part in the event. Drivers were offered a free bacon bun and hot drink before setting off on the planned 45-mile route.

Mr Elliott said: “It was a beautiful morning when we set off. We stopped for lunch at Nenthead and the heavens opened up, so we had to cut the run short and came straight back to the auction mart, but no one was disappointed. Then we had the auction and raffle.

Various power tools, along with clothing and socket sets donated by Middleton Forge and Carrs Billington were part of the auction which raised about £600. A further £500 was raised through the raffle.

Mr Scott’s widow Helen said: “On the day we raised £4,276.82 from donations, the raffle, auction and entered tractors. Donations are still being received.

“Money also raised from other events held earlier in the year amount to £2,117.30 so a total of £6394.12 has been raised to date.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to you all because without the help of local businesses, family, friends and the wider community none of this would have been possible.”
