Peter’s pot leek judged simply the best at Staindrop show

SUCCESS AT THE DOUBLE: Peter Farrell with his best leek and best intermediate leek

STAINDROP’S growers had plenty to smile about when they displayed their produce at the village leek club’s annual show.
The event was held at the Wheatsheaf pub and money raised from the auction of produce will go to support local good causes nominated by leek club members at the annual meeting this month.
There were some familiar names to be added to the trophies this year.
Peter Farrell had plenty to celebrate after lifting the trophies for best pot leek and best intermediate leek on view, while Alan Bethray received the silverware for most points in show from the open classes.
Bill Scaife showed the best vegetable collection and grew the best sweet peas, while Jocky Maclean produced the best flower in show.
Peter Brennan took the trophy for best long leek in the open classes.
Club chairman Mike Wylie thanked all those who helped make it a successful weekend and the very generous patrons of the auction.
Enquiries to join the club are welcome, but prospective members must live in the Staindrop area.
