A FARMER is celebrating after her ewe became the first of its kind ever to take the overall sheep supreme interbreed title at the Royal Welsh show last week.

Anna Pennell, from Redworth, near Heighington, showed her Clun Forest shearling ewe at the event.

She said: “With more than 3,000 sheep entered, the shearling ewe, bought privately from Derek Knowles, of St Albans, stood at the top after winning her breed championship and the lowland interbreed supreme before taking the top title.”

Ms Pennell also got to meet Prime Minister Theresa May at the show, saying that the politician seemed interested to find out more about the animals.

Clun Forests are a British native breed, mainly kept around Clun and Ludlow area in Wales.

Ms Pennell’s ewe was also overall reserve supreme sheep at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.
