Town bakery on the up with new cafe venture

RISING STAR: Alex Lister and the team from the Rise Artisan Bakery

AN artisan bakers has opened an eatery with a menu based on bread.
Three months after launching Rise Artisan Bakery, in Barnard Castle, Alex Lister and Catherine Brown, have expanded the business to include a cafe on the first floor of their Horsemarket premises.
Mr Lister said: “The whole ethos is based around bread.”
Building on their popular range of deli sandwiches there are also paninis, breakfast dishes, including croissants made in-house, and hearty soups. For those with a sweet tooth there are a range of tempting patisseries.
“It is a simple menu but with good quality ingredients, locally sourced and we want the flavours to stand out,” added Mr Lister.
The cafe is open Wednesday to Saturday but there are plans to expand the opening hours in the spring with the possibility of a separate early evening menu.
