Taking over the airwaves

TEESDALE TAKEOVER: The town is back on the airwaves with a dedicated radio programme on Wednesdays

Barnard Castle is back on the radio with it’s very own dedicated radio show.

The town has been without a community radio station since Radio Teesdale closed down in 2016.

Now, helping to fill the gap is the ‘Teesdale Takeover’, a weekly show produced in Barney and broadcast as part of the schedule on county-wide digital radio station Durham OnAir.

The show is fronted by former Radio Teesdale presenter Stuart Laundy and features local headlines, topical guests and a mix of new music and classic tunes.

Stuart said “I’m thrilled to be putting Barnard Castle back on the airwaves.

“Durham OnAir isn’t just about Durham City, and it’s great to offer listeners a chance to catch up on what’s going on in our part of the county for a couple of hours each Wednesday teatime.

“We have guests appearing on the show every week, and we’ve covered everything from comedy to keep fit and even local politics.

“We’re currently chatting to many of the candidates in the North East Mayoral elections.

“The show is coming along nicely and I can’t wait to see how it develops further,” added Stuart, who combines presenting duties with editing the Mercury.

A spokesperson from Durham OnAir said: “It’s our mission at Durham OnAir to provide a service for the entire county, from east to west.

“Barnard Castle is such an important part of County Durham, and we are thrilled we are able to dedicate a full programme to everything happening in the town and across Teesdale.”

You can listen to the Teesdale Takeover on Durham OnAir every Wednesday between 5pm and 7pm.

You can listen anytime as the programme is also available on the station’s catch-up service at www.durhamon air.com.

Durham OnAir is available on DAB+, Alexa smart speakers by saying: “Alexa, Enable… Durham… On… Air” , the free Durham OnAir smart phone app and online at www.durhamonair.com.
