Sam tunes up for online launch of new EP

LIVE STREAM: Sam Nixon will live stream a performance of his new EP on Sunday

A YOUNG dale musician is to unveil his debut EP by streaming a live performance on social media this weekend.
Sam Nixon will play the five tracks which form Here Goes Nothing on Sunday, April 26, at 5pm.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, a release date for the EP has yet to be fixed, but Sam is hoping it will be out some time in July, preceded by a single a month earlier.
The 19-year-old, from Romaldkirk, said he eventually hopes to make a career out of music.
Like everyone else, his plans have been interrupted by the Covid-19 outbreak.
He had been due to provide the support for Limehouse Lizzy, at Mickleton Live, and was due to play a headline slot in Richmond, both of which have been fallen victim to the lockdown.
However, he is using the current situation to concentrate on his songwriting.
The EP features Sam performing solo his self-penned “acoustic fusion” material.
“It’s going to be really stripped down – just me a guitar and an electric guitar,” said Sam, who is also part of a group called Coated Ambassador.
He first picked up a guitar as a small child and took lessons from Fred Rudkin when he was just seven progressing through to grade eight.
“I moved on to Sid Rundell, who used to run a rock school in Cleveland. The TCR Hub have also been very supportive and I have done gigs there as well,” he added.
Sam said he enjoys both playing solo and as part of a band.
“At the moment, the rest of the band are at uni. We keep in touch and get together when we can. With a band you can bounce off each other,” he said.
“I am pushing the solo stuff at the moment because that is where I can work the most hours and get the most out of it. Performing solo you also get more of a connection with the audience.”
He added: “I would like to make a career out of music. I love performing, but eventually I would like to write songs for other people. I spend most of my time writing songs.
“This is how I am getting through lockdown. It’s quite a relaxing way to occupy yourself. In terms of gigs, it’s just a case of waiting because you can’t book anything at the moment.”
Like many musicians, he has taken to social media to stream performances to entertainment people.
Sam will be streaming the performance of the EP via his Facebook page – search for Sam Nixon Music.
