Crew Clothing Company’s eagerly anticipated Barnard Castle shop has welcomed its first customers.
The 750sq ft store opened in the former Teesdale Mercury shop at 24 Market Place.
The new trader is set to create six new jobs.
Opening day brought a steady flow of shoppers, many attracted by a special opening offer.
The first 50 people to spend £50 or more received a limited edition Barnard Castle Crew tote bag with a free gift.
“Everybody seems really pleased that we’re here,” said store manager Maxine Nicholls.
“We’ve seen quite a few regulars from other Crew stores.
“And it feels like there’s been a bit of a buzz. I’m not local, but while I’ve been staying in town and talking to people, they were looking forward to us opening.”
The lifestyle clothing brand was attracted by the buoyant Barnard Castle shopping experience, which it believes is a good fit with its successful stores in market towns in the south.
“We’ve been actively looking to expand into towns in the North that fit our brand,” said Carol Kane, head of retail. “Barnard Castle is a perfect example.
“It’s a thriving market town with a strong community and high street, and it complements our existing stores in Northallerton, Hexham and the Lakes.
“We know our collections will sit beautifully alongside the independent businesses and brands already on the high street.
“We’re excited to become part of this community.”
