Popular band will rock rugby club to raise cash

LET'S ROCK: Geriatric and the Pacemakers

MEMBERS of a Teesdale band say they are delighted with the reaction they’ve been receiving since forming – and hope new followers will help them raise the profile and cash for a local sporting club.

Geriatric and the Pacemakers comprise five band members with a combined age of 182 years and play an impressive mix of music from the 1960s through to recently released hits.

Hot on the heels of their latest successful show at The Pinfold Club, in Boldron, they have announced they hope to get the tills ringing at Barnard Castle’s Rugby Club and will be performing live on Saturday, February 15.

Guitarist Scouse Griffiths said: “It’s a really good crowd behind us now helping with the sound set up and we’re getting more and more requests to play all over the place which is great. It seems like we’re in demand and nice that people are wanting us to play.

“Personally I would play eight days a week if it was possible.

“It’s just a great buzz and nice to know what you’re doing is appreciated.”

Drummer David Harper said: “We getting really good reaction where ever we’re playing.

“I think it’s because everyone who sees us playing sees how much fun we have performing together and that rubs off on the crowds.

“We wanted to play at the rugby club. As with lots of sporting clubs they need help. It’s a free event and everyone is welcome. So if you like good music and we do play a wide range that appeals to a lot of people, they should pop along as it’s going to help the club out as well.”

Doors open to the club in the afternoon as the first team will be playing at home.
