Operatic society lines up a busy 2022

IT'S A HIT: Teesdale Operatic Society plans a busy year after the success of Joseph

BUOYED by the sell-out success of their debut show, officials at Teesdale Operatic Society have lined up a busy programme for all ages during 2022.
Dawn Trevor, who directed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, said the four performances at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, went “better than I could have imagined” .
Preparations for the society’s next venture – Matilda Junior – begin early in the new year. It is a children’s show and an open meeting for potential cast members aged eight to 18 will be held at Barnard Castle School on Monday, January 10, between 4pm and 6pm.
“Matilda Junior is a new release and I think we will be the first in the region to stage it,” said Ms Trevor.
Rehearsals will continue throughout the early weeks of the year with performances planned at The Witham for April 22-24.
“It is important to continue with something for the children and we want to have a youth wing at the society as there is nothing really as far as musical theatre in this area for kids unless you go to Darlington, which not everyone can,” added Ms Trevor.
At the end of January, the society will begin work on An Evening at the Musicals for its adult members.
Details are still being finalised with the date and venue of performances to be confirmed.
The society’s next major show will be The Little Shop of Horrors, which will be staged at The Witham from October 27-29. Ms Trevor said she hoped to build on the success of Joseph.
“We did not really know how it was going to work, but it all came together in the end. It was much better than I could have imagined.”
