Jazz on the greeen is music to villagers’ ears

GLAD TO BE BACK: Above

THE sound of music echoed across a village green as dozens of residents turned out to enjoy one of the first live performances in the dale since lockdown restrictions were eased.
Stockton-based Preservation Jazz Band had been invited to play a selection of New Orleans-style standards and help raise money for St Mary’s Church, in Gainford, and the village hall.
Residents were invited to bring along chairs and picnics to enjoy the Sunday lunchtime show – with 130 turning out.
Organisers ensured there was plenty of space between band and audience, while couples and groups were asked to observe social distancing.
Contact details were requested so track and trace could be done if required.
Collections buckets were placed around the green.
In all, more than £530 was raised for the church and hall.
