It’s party time to thank supporters of Scarth Hall, in Staindrop

PARTY TIME: Les Blair is inviting people from Staindrop to a free New Year's party at the Scarth Memorial Hall TM pic

A VILLAGE hall is throwing a New Year’s Eve party to say thank you to all those who have supported the venue during the past 12 months.

People in Staindrop are being invited to the bash at the Scarth Memorial Hall on December 31 to enjoy a free disco and bacon butties.

The only expense people will have is the cost of drinks at the bar.

Organised by hall volunteer Les Blair, the event can cater for about 90 people of which about 60 tickets have been snapped up.

Mr Blair said: “We are trying to do more for the community and to reach people in who don’t normally get out, like adults with children.

“The hall is doing well financially, so it is just a way of giving a bit back to the community.”

Cash for the event was raised through the hall’s Monday morning community cafe.

Doors open at 7pm people can look forward to mix of party music from the 70s and 80s, through to modern times.

There will also be fun dances, like the Macarena, for the children.

The hall’s cinema screen will be turned on at 11.30pm for the countdown to the New Year. Mr Blair said: “We will watch the fireworks on the big screen then it is back to the disco for whoever is still standing.”

Free tickets to the shindig are available from bar in the hall.
