Folk trio head from Canada to Cotherstone

COMING TO COTHERSTONE: Canadian trip Diyet & the Love Soldiers will perform on Sunday

A TRIO are heading from Canada to Cotherstone to offer an evening of alternative folk, roots, country, American and traditional aboriginal music.

Diyet and the Love Soldiers combine music with stories of the singer’s Kluane First nation background, backed by husband and collaborator Robert van Lieshout on guitar and foot percussion and Juno Award-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist Bob Hamilton.

Raised in a cabin on the shores of a glacial lake in Canada’s Yukon Territory, Diyet’s debut album, The Breaking Point, received nominations for best new artist and songwriter of the year at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards in 2010 and 2011.

In addition to earlier material, the trio will treat their audience to tracks for the eponymous 2018 album intertwined with stories and insights into the cultures of their music.

The show takes place on Sunday, May 12, at 7.30pm, at Cotherstone Village Hall.

It is part of the current season of Highlights Rural Touring Scheme season, which collaborates with a similar programme in Canada to bring North American music to rural venues across the region.
