Dancers blend Scottish and Spanish influences

BEST FOOT FOWARD: An innovative dance performance by 6 Feet

A FUSION of Spanish and Scottish dance comes to a dale viollage this week.

Mickleton Village Hall will host 6 Feet, 3 Shoes on Friday May 13, at 7.30pm as part of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme.

The performance comes courtesy of Slanjayvah Danza – merging the Gaelic word for welcome and the Spanish word for dance – whose members use dance, storytelling and foot-stomping rhythms to tell a poignant tale about the ties that bind us.

Slanjayvah Danza artistic director and choreographer, Jenni Wren has come up with a performance that beautifully blends Spanish and Scottish cultures to celebrate the friendship and reflect the nationality of the three founding members.

After a sold-out run for its premiere at Dance Base, during the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe 2019, 6 Feet, 3 Shoes has won high praise and last year was shortlisted for the prestigious Total Theatre Award for Dance.

The production is supported by the Rural Touring Dance Initiative.

Slanjayvah Danza is based in rural Perthshire and specialises in putting the dance into storytelling and producing relatable, adventurous and heart-warming dance experiences.

Kate Lynch, director at the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, said: ” We work hard to bring a wide range of exciting performances to rural audiences who might not normally get the opportunity to see them.

“This is a rare opportunity to see a professional contemporary dance performance in an intimate rural venue and promises to be a joyful dance show for all the family.

“This performance is one of many unmissable live events that have been taking place in village halls and community venues across County Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland throughout the spring.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children.
