A TEESDALE-based artist who acquired a love for the outdoors growing up on a farm, has put together an exhibition of her work that spans four decades.
Landscape artist Ginny Whittle grew up in Leicestershire surrounded by gently rolling fields and she says she is happiest when she is surrounded by nature. A keen mountaineer and hill walker, her love of the outdoors is reflected in the artwork she creates. She currently has a two-month long exhibition featuring watercolours of her favourite local beauty spots.
Ms Whittle, who lives at Hutton Magna, said: “I have been painting since my early twenties and did a fine art degree at Sunderland.
“I’m an outside person really and I go out on the fells in winter and summer with my border terrier Tattie and with my paints to capture the light. We’ve camped out on the top of Scarfell Pike and Great Gable.
“This exhibition spans four decades of work and features a lot of local spots, including the Meeting of the Waters, High Force and views of Swaledale.”
Ms Whittle has exhibited all over the north-east and ran watercolour classes at The Witham before the pandemic. She continues to teach at the Bridge Centre in Darlington.
She added: “My current obsession, art wise, is Scottish castles and I’m hoping to put together another exhibition in the summer.”
Her current exhibition at Greensleeves Picture Framers on Gallowfield Trading Estate, Richmond, runs until the end of January.
