Cricket comes together in memory of Sam Alexander
Friends and family of Sam Alexander will come together next month for a memorial cricket match and fundraising day in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
The event, which marks the start of Cystic Fibrosis Week, takes place on Saturday, June 6, when Barnard Castle 1st XI host Richmond 1st XI in the Sam Alexander Memorial Trophy at Vere Road.
Sam died in March 2025, aged 32.
Play gets underway at 1pm and supporters are being encouraged to attend to remember Sam and enjoy an afternoon of cricket and entertainment.
Sam’s mother Denise said: “We’d love to see as many people as possible join us on June 6.
“The game against Richmond is always fiercely competitive and one that Sam looked forward to in the cricketing calendar.
“Last year the match was tied so we’re hoping Barnard Castle can go one better.”
A raffle featuring prizes donated by businesses from across Teesdale and beyond will also be held.
Prizes include vouchers from Barnard Castle and Bishop Auckland golf clubs, Sunday lunch for four at The Morritt, a family day pass for Raby Castle and gifts from smaller firms including Cross Lanes Organic Farm Shop, Saks hairdressing, Moments and Marshalls cafes.
There will also be a silent auction of sporting memorabilia, including a signed shirt and bat from the 2005 Ashes tour.
Other auction prizes include vouchers for Slaley, Rockliffe and Headlam golf courses, tickets for England v Sri Lanka at the Riverside and a spa afternoon tea experience at Headlam Hall.
Food vendor Fired and Sliced will be on site during the day and band Empty Glass will perform at the cricket club from 8pm.
Entry is free.
All money raised will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to support research and provide help for people living with cystic fibrosis.
