Dog handler to run ultra marathon for mountain rescue teams

A dog handler is to run a 100-mile ultra-marathon in support for the dale’s fell rescue team where she is a volunteer.

Karen Fisher will be raising cash for Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England and Teesdale And Weardale Search And Mountain Rescue Team when she tackles the long route from Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh on Saturday, July 4.

All being well, she is expected to complete the mammoth challenge on Monday, July 6.

A spokesman for TWSMRT said: “We are so proud of Karen. She is an integral part of TWSMRT but also part of a larger network for the search dogs.

“Her specialist training allows her to work trained dogs who scent via the air and aid in searches across large and complex areas.

“Karen is raising money to support both services and doing so via an ultra-marathon – just wow!”

A spokesman for MRSDE said: “One of our dog handlers, Karen, is taking on a monster ultra-marathon challenge of 100 miles raising money for causes very close to her heart.

“If you can spare a few quid please help her reach her fundraising goal.

“Both us and Teesdale MRT are fully run by volunteers and rely on donations to keep up our lifesaving work.”
