Day to remember for Teesdale sheep breeder

It was a day to remember for a Teesdale sheep breeder whose tup swept the board at the Autumn Rare Breeds Show.

The event took place at York Auction Centre at the weekend and Adrian Mairs, who farms at Mount Pleasant, near Startforth, returned home with four prizes.

His tup Mount Pleasant Louie won the Shetland sheep aged ram competition and was named the overall breed (Shetland) champion.

Louie then finished first in the Shetland sheep adult wool on the hoof category and then went up against the best lamb in that section and was named Shetland sheep wool on the hoof overall champion.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Adrian told the Mercury.

“It’s the best day I’ve ever had.

“We took Louie to Skelton Show this summer and he was first there and he also won at Great Ecclestone Show, near Preston.”
