Success for U8 Barnard Castle gymnasts

WELL DONE: The Barnard Castle gymnasts

YOUNG athletes from Barnard Castle Gymnastics Club are celebrating after success in their first ever competition.

The club, based at Teesdale Leisure Centre, entered a team in the U8 competition at Catterick Leisure Centre.

Each girl performed an individual floor routine to music as well as two vaults in front of a large audience.

Of the 34 children taking part in the age category, Isabella Killeen finished second while Bella Dupuy was third.

Five gymnasts who made up the Barnard Castle Team came second in the competition, while the club was also received a plaque for the best presented club.

Coach Claudia Barkes said: “The children worked so hard for this event and we are extremely proud of them.

“It isn’t easy performing in front of so many people on your own, especially in your first competition, but the children put their nerves to one side and were great ambassadors for the club.”
