It was a hard fought afternoon in blazing heat with some very tight scores and with one team on maximum points it was a close call for second. It went down to the last end of the game between the two teams in contention to decide the runner up with Brian Smurthwaite, Tony Hudspeth and Angus Dowson taking it with seven points.

The winners with a total of ten points were Kevin Cross, Tony Barkshire and Dennis Richards.

The A team were away at Darlington Hundens B and came away with all four points following a 77-36 win.

Dave Smith, Jeff Asquith and Kevin Cross made up the Top Rink winning 29-9.

The B team entertained Middleton-St-George and ran out comfortable winners 4-0, winning all three rinks and the long game 83-39.

Competition for Top Rink honours was fierce and despite a late bid to change the qualifying rules two teams tied with a 21 point shots difference. Bob Lockyer, John Tallentire and John Robinson won 29-8 and Neil Bailey, John Walker and Angus Dowson won 33-12.

Vets League Knockout

Both teams were at home playing Darlington Woodland A and B in this rearranged fixture due to last week’s rain.

Our A team played their B team and never looked in danger running out 79-27 winners with Top Rink going to Tony Barkshire, Alan Wearmouth and Neil Watters who won 31-7.

The B team put up a good effort but lost out by ten shots despite a 21-14 win for Bill Carter, Neil Bailey and Frank Ashmore.

Good luck to the A team in the semi-finals.
