Youngsters bake up a storm at Cotherstone show

WINNING RECIPE: Cotherstone Flower and Vegetable Show's triumphant trophy winners

QUALITY was the order of the day at Cotherstone Flower and Vegetable Show on Saturday as children proved their baking skills by beating many of the adults in the home produce classes.

Young people aged between 10 and 13 took some of the top prizes in the cake and scone sections.

Emily Lamb, 13, scooped first prize in the chocolate cake category, while Kitty Goldsborough, 10, took third spot.

Winner of the four cheese scones class was won by 13-year-old Lydia Swinburn.

The flower section was down on last year, but was dominated by green-fingered Michael Hedley, with Barry Watson competing well in the vegetable classes.

Alison Lamb of the show committee said: “Entries are a bit down in the flower classes because of the weather but the ones we have had are excellent quality.

“The cake classes have been up and have been well support. The cake classes have had nine or ten entries which is good for a small village.”
