ORGANISERS of Barnard Castle Christmas Lights say they hope to have some parts of the town illuminated as soon after Remembrance Day as possible.
The volunteer group has worked against the clock to ensure the town will be lit up after having to find alternative power supply points for the annual displays on the fronts of buildings in the town centre.
Teams of workers from Christmas Plus, the company contracted to install the lights, have already been out and about in the town centre stringing some of the displays in their new positions. They are expected to be back later in the month to install festoon lights.
Roger Peat from the Christmas lights group, said: “We were very pleased to see Christmas Plus.
“It will take them much longer to put the lights up this year because of the fixings they are having to install so the lights are higher up on the buildings to comply with the directive from Durham County Council.”
“We have changed the icicles for festoons in Galgate this year and hope residents will enjoy the change.”
Mr Peat added: “Thanks to our county councillors – Richard Bell in particular – and the Teesdale Action Partnership officers Annalisa Ward and Adam White we will have a good display over the festive period.”
He said he hoped to be able to have some lights on by November 17.
Meanwhile, the town’s Christmas Tree will be collected from Raby Castle on November 19 and put in place by S&A the following day ready for the town council’s tree lights switch-on on December 3.
