Village parish council objects to Lidl and Home Bargains plan

A Lidl store is being planned for Barney

PARISH councillors in Marwood have objected to proposals for Lidl and Home Bargains stores on the outskirts of Barnard Castle.

The scheme, earmarked for the former Addisons Auction house site on the A688 Staindrop Road, sits within the Marwood boundary.

In its response to the outline planning application, the parish council says the footpath on the A688 is narrow and not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The parish council also raises concerns about light pollution late at night and in the early morning, which would affect those living on the neighbouring High Riggs estate, as would traffic fumes from vehicles in the car park.

Fears of traffic congestion and danger to children attending Teesdale School are also highlighted, along with the possible problems of deliveries “at all hours, day and night” .

The parish council suggests the developers look at Harmire Enterprise Park as an alternative location for the stores.
