Vehicles destroyed in Evenwood blaze

The scene in Evenwood

TWO heavy goods vehicles were left gutted when a fire broke out at an Evenwood removal company this afternoon, June 14.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said a large amount of rubbish also went up in the blaze at Ramshaw Removals and Storage.

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 1pm.

The spokesperson said: “Four appliances attended , two from Bishop Auckland, one from Crook and one from Spennymoor. Firefighters were equipped with breathing apparatus and used three hole reels, two jet sprays and cutting equipment to put out the blaze.

Meanwhile, 275 homes are without power in the village. However, a spokesman said the issue was not related to the fire and power would be restored by 6pm.
