Travel firm goes the extra mile for Teesdale Association of Day Clubs

WORKING TOGETHER: Andrea Hobbs

A TEESDALE travel company will be helping to raise funds for a charity that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a range of activities during the coming months.

Kyle Travel Worldchoice, based in Galgate, Barnard Castle, has nominated Teesdale Day Clubs as the firm’s charity of the year and staff say they are “bubbling with ideas” on how to raise money.

Carol Hunter, branch manager of Kyle Travel, said “We are really excited about our forthcoming partnership with Teesdale Day Clubs.

“Over the last 38 years of being a business in the town, we have had such great support from our customers and really wanted to give something back.

“Choosing a local charity like the day clubs means we can be confident that all the money we raise goes directly to helping people in our own community. We’ve got lots of ideas including raffles and coffee mornings.

“One thing we will be doing is each of us here giving up a day of work and going out into the community to help wherever we can to raise money. At the moment though we are still sorting through where and what we will be doing.”

Ms Hunter did say they were hoping to do “something big” involving a treadmill and possibly foreign currency.

Every penny raised will go directly to support the running of ten day clubs that provide a weekly opportunity for people to get together, enjoy a meal in the company of others and access the additional community worker support when they need to.

Andrea Hobbs, strategic manager at Teesdale Day Clubs, said: “”Being nominated as Charity of the Year by such a well-established business is a real honour and we are delighted to be working with Carol and her team at Kyle Travel.”

“We will be working closely with them to make sure that their fundraising activities are successful.

“It provides us with a valuable opportunity to raise our profile and encourages more people to find out about what we do, how we can support them or their family members, think about volunteering with us or maybe get involved themselves with local fund-raising. Kyle Travel are setting a great example in the town by showing support for us.”
