PREPARATIONS for a three-day festival which aims to leave participants feeling great are well underway with a variety of entertainment already in place.
The inaugural Durham Festival of Wellbeing will bring together music, dance, alternative therapies, food art, sculpture, nature activities and demonstrations in one venue and organisers are promising it will be spectacular.
The festival has been organised by The Hub, in Barnard Castle, and kicks off on Friday, August 30, until Sunday September 1.
Vicky Taylor, events manager at The Hub, said: “There is so much going on all three days but it is going to be great and it hopefully will leave everyone feeling the same way.”
A varied line-up of performers include Showhawk Duo, who entertained crowds at Glastonbury with their acoustic trance music; Los Capitanes; Ailsa and the Seahorses; Sam Nixon; Lewis and Kate; Holy Moly and the Crackers; and rock choir Euphoria.
There will be workshops for yoga, pilates, Tai Chi and swing dance. Demonstrations will be held in reiki and puppet art by Jack Drum Art, as well as a number of holistic therapies.Sensory spaces throughout The Hub’s complex will create a relaxing environment, the organisers say.
Art installations will add to the festival and anyone who missed the opportunity to see the controversial Hush landscape artwork earlier in the month will get to see some of it in a “recycled” capacity.
Local artist Holly Scott helped artist Steve Messam to install and take down the artwork in upper Teesdale and has used some of the saffron-dyed fabric to create colourful bunting that will be strung through trees.
For children, there will be a show with gunge for Lee Kyle’s madcap comedy routine.
Teepee tens will feature a trade stands and food vendors. There will be a licensed bar throughout the weekend.
Tickets are limited and are available in advance. Adult day tickets cost £10 and include one free child.
