Teachers create pumpkin patch after Halloween trip is cancelled

PUMPKIN PATCH: Staff at Evenwood Primary School created a pumpkin patch for children after a planned farm trip was called off

YOUNGSTERS at Evenwood Primary School’s nursery and reception class usually enjoy a visit to Atley Hill pick your own pumpkin patch, near Northallerton.
But when this year’s trip was cancelled due to the Covid alert, staff were determined the children wouldn’t miss out on the season fun.
Teachers Adele Brazier and Annie Armstrong worked tirelessly to re-create an area of the outside space at the school into a wonderful pumpkin patch.
When the children arrived in school their little faces lit up and once everyone had wellies and coats on they ventured into the homemade field to pick pumpkins.
Each child had a special ticket to “pay” for their pumpkin and they talked about them being big, heavy and round, being able to roll them and how to carry them.
Ms Brazier said: “It was great fun and a fabulous way of extending the children’s language, maths and so much learning.
“School trips play a huge part in a child’s learning and experiencing new and exciting things. We may be in a pandemic but that won’t stop the amazing learning here at Evenwood.”
