DANCING, eating, colouring-in and a host of other fun activities have helped Staindrop Primary School pupils hone their French skills.
The school held a France Day to help key stage two pupils put to use their language skills.
Deputy headteacher Janet Boyd said some of the French-themed activities included each class being challenged to build the tallest Eiffel Tower using only newspaper and masking tape, and taking part in a French food tasting
session which included baguettes, cheese, jams, olives and pate.
Children dressed up in red, white and blue and parents were invited to a themed cafe in the afternoon where year five pupils took down people’s orders in French.
Mrs Boyd said: “The purpose of the day is to celebrate all things French and to learn more about France.
“We were going to have a Tour de Staindrop, but we have moved that because of the weather.”
The cycle around the school field will see the top three being awarded medals and the leader in each class group earning a “yellow jersey” .
She extended her thanks to Sainsbury’s, in Darlington, and Morrisons, in Barnard Castle, for providing vouchers for the food enjoyed by pupils, and Tina Wray, of Popperdoppers, for helping present activities.
French dance duo Yannick Minivielle-Debat and Robin Shepherd provided the dance lessons.
