Scarecrow superheroes on show in Holwick

SCARY STUFF: Dr Heather MacConachie with Helen Knowles who won the inaugural Holwick scarecrow trail with her blood biker effigy

A SCARECROW trail that raised hundreds of pounds for NHS charities last year was so successful that organisers have organised another.
The aim is to raise cash for the Friends of the Richardson Hospital.
More than 20 key-worker scarecrows made up the trail in Holwick in 2020.
This time, organiser Jennie Lee said the theme is superheroes, with the scarecrow trail continuing to Saturday, August 22.
She said: “Lots of people enjoyed visiting Holwick last year to see our scarecrows at a time when coronavirus restrictions were just starting to be lifted and people could get out and enjoy a walk and fresh air.
“The trail was a big success so we’ve decided to hold another this year and use this as a way to raise funds for the Friends of Richardson’s Hospital to say thanks for being the venue for Teesdale’s amazing Covid vaccination programme”
Scarecrow trail forms cost £2 and are available from G&J Newsagents, Middleton-in-Teesdale and there will be three prizes up for grabs for those returning completed forms.
