Reward for information on blaze at Gainford allotments

DESTROYED: The piece of ashes where the sheds stood

A DESPERATE mum is offering a reward to find out who torched to her 14-year-old son’s allotment shed.

Regan Tray is considering whether it is worth the effort to keep chickens and plant potatoes and garlic after a series of incidents at Gainford allotments.

His mum, Colleen, said the family had spent about £600 putting up the new sheds which were later set ablaze in the early hours of New Year’s Day. She added: “He’s only had it for four months. It was just something for him to do. He is a bit put off now.

“It did get broken into on the Friday and they knocked the lock off.

“There is nothing worth taking, just some rakes and shovels.

“There has been quite a lot of vandalism down there – stupid things like taking greenhouse doors, but they have reached new heights with this one.

“Thankfully the chickens weren’t hurt.”

The fire also damaged a greenhouse on a neighbouring plot.

She is now offering a £100 reward for information about who caused the damage.

Ms Tray can be contacted by email on [email protected].
