CHILDREN at Green Lane Primary School are planning a Race For Life day which will see them have fun, keep fit and healthy – and raise cash for a cancer charity.
The school’s PE lead teacher Helen Court said the event, which takes place on Thursday, June 20, will see pupils running a 1,500 metre course while teachers throw colourful powder paint at them.
Cash raised will go to the Teesdale Branch of Cancer Research UK.
Fundraising manager for the national charity Jan Leaf spoke to pupils about cancer during a special assembly last week.
She added that the dale fundraising group is celebrating its 45th anniversary and had raised more than £1million so far.
She added: “All money raised by the Teesdale group goes to our research centre in Newcastle and the new childhood cancer centre.”
During the assembly James Blenkiron, of John Blenkiron and Sons funeral directors, handed over £300 to the charity and wished the children well in their own fundraising attempt.
Ms Leaf said: “The donation is generous and it is a great example of a community coming to support the local fundraising group to fight cancer.”
